Biffers Win 11 State Broadcasting Awards and 2016 Michigan High School Radio Station of the Year

Bloomfield Hills School District radio broadcasting students won three first place awards, four second place awards and four third place awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation (MABF) at their annual Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference held May 3, 2016 at the Lansing Center in Lansing.

The MABF received entries from 38 schools for their annual Michigan Student Broadcast Awards competition.  WBFH students won 11 of the 23 awards given out in the high school radio division and won the 2016 Michigan High School Radio Station of the Year Award for the tenth time in the last 14 years:

Senior Evan Sacksner won four awards:  1st Place, On-Air Personality; 1st Place, Most Innovative Media Technology; 1st Place, Talk Show; 2nd Place, Public Service Announcement (with Andrew Brown and Greg Margosian).

Senior Andrew Brown won three awards:  1st Place, Promotional Announcement (with Greg Margosian); 2nd Place, Public Service Announcement (with Evan Sacksner and Greg Margosian); 3rd Place Promotional Announcement (with Greg Margosian and Harrison Parker).

Senior Greg Margosian won three awards:  1st Place, Promotional Announcement (with Andrew Brown); 2nd Place, Public Service Announcement (with Evan Sacksner and Andrew Brown); 3rd Place Promotional Announcement (with Andrew Brown and Harrison Parker).

Senior Foster Stubbs won two awards:  2nd Place, Daily Newscast/News Feature; 2nd Place, Digital Media Experience.

Senior Harrison Parker won two awards:  2nd Place, Promotional Announcement; 3rd Place, Promotional Announcement (with Andrew Brown and Greg Margosian).

Senior Jason Silverstone won two awards:  3rd Place, Public Service Announcement; 3rd Place, MHSAA Sports Public Service Announcement (with Jonah Lopas).

Senior Jonah Lopas won one award:  3rd Place, MHSAA Sports Public Service Announcement (with Jason Silverstone).

The WBFH management team of Station Manager Pete Bowers and Assistant Manager/Technical Director Ron Wittebols were present to congratulate the award winning students.  “I’m so proud of the seven seniors who won awards at the ceremony today. Winning back-to-back High School Station of the Year Awards was a great way to end their time working on WBFH before they graduate” said Bowers.  Bowers is on the MAB Foundation Board of Directors.

WBFH, also known as The Biff, is a non-commercial, educational radio station broadcasting at 88.1 and 89.5 on the FM dial, online at wbfh.fm and on the free Biff Radio app.
