WBFH Named 2015 Michigan High School Radio Station of the Year

Bloomfield Hills School District radio broadcasting students won six first place awards, six second place awards and two third place awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation (MABF) at their annual Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference held Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the Lansing Center in Lansing.

The MABF received 392 entries from 23 schools for their annual Michigan Student Broadcast Awards competition.  WBFH students won 14 of the 23 awards (60%) given out in the high school radio division and won the 2015 Michigan High School Radio Station of the Year Award for the ninth time in the last 13 years.

Senior Jaron Kirshenbaum won six awards: 1st Place, PSA (with Harrison Parker); 1st Place, Digital Media Experience (with Harrison Parker); 1st Place, Play by Play (with Dylan Wittenberg); 2nd Place, Daily Newscast/News Feature; 2nd Place, Talk Show (with Oliver Norton); 3rd Place MHSAA Sports PSA.

Junior Evan Sacksner won three awards: 1st Place, Promo (with Jason Silverstone); 2nd Place, PSA (with Mitchell Salhaney, Jason Silverstone and Brock Appleby); 2nd Place Promo (with Andrew Brown).

Junior Jason Silverstone won three awards: 1st Place, Promo (with Evan Sacksner); 2nd Place, PSA (with Evan Sacksner and Mitchell Salhaney); 3rd Place, Talk Show (with Jonah Lopas).

Senior Brock Appleby won two awards: 2nd Place, On-Air Personality; 2nd Place, PSA (with Evan Sacksner, Mitchell Salhaney and Jason Silverstone).

Junior Harrison Parker won three awards: 1st Place, Current Events Program; 1st Place, Digital Media Experience (with Jaron Kirshenbaum).1st Place, PSA (with Jaron Kirshenbaum).

Senior Kent Davis won one award: 1st Place, MHSAA Sports PSA.

Sophomore Dylan Wittenberg won one award: 1st Place, Sports Play-by-Play (with Jaron Kirshenbaum).

Senior Mitchell Salhaney won one award: 2nd Place, PSA (with Evan Sacksner and Jason Silverstone).

Senior Oliver Norton won one award: 2nd Place, Talk Show (with Jaron Kirshenbaum).

Junior Greg Margosian won one award: 2nd Place, Sports Play-by-Play (with Foster Stubbs).

Junior Foster Stubbs won one award: 2nd Place, Sports Play-by-Play (with Greg Margosian).

Junior Andrew Brown won one award: 2nd Place, Promo (with Evan Sacksner).

Junior Jonah Lopas won one award: 3rd Place, Talk Show (with Jason Silverstone).

Kirshenbaum’s six awards were the most by any student in the competition. Six of the 13 award winners were first-time winners in this state competition: Norton, Silverstone, Salhaney, Wittenberg, Margosian and Stubbs.

The WBFH management team of Station Manager Pete Bowers and Assistant Manager/Technical Director Ron Wittebols were present to congratulate the award winning students. “Five of our 13 award-winning students are seniors. I was very happy to see the underclassmen win as many awards as they did, especially those first-time award winners” said Bowers. Bowers is on the MAB Foundation Board of Directors.
